Responding to an Invitation
How to accept or decline a club invitation sent to your email
Responding to an Invitation
If a club has invited you to join, you'll receive an email with a personal link. The same invitation also shows up at the top of your My Clubs page once you're signed in. This guide walks through what happens when you respond.
What the Respond Page Shows
The respond page (/invitations/[token]) is themed in the club's identity, logo, name, and colours, so you know exactly who's inviting you. You'll see:
- Who invited you: the committee member's name (when available)
- The membership offered: name and duration, or "One-off visit" if the club has invited you for a single session rather than full membership
- Expiry date: pending invitations expire 30 days after they're sent
- Personal note: if the inviter typed one, it appears as a quoted note
- About the club: a summary of the club: description, nights they play, levels welcomed, juniors welcomed, coaching, fees, location
- Your response: a GDPR consent checkbox and the Accept / Decline controls
There's a View full club details → link to the public club page if you want to read more before deciding.
Getting There
- From the invitation email, tap the Respond to invitation button.
- From inside the app, go to My clubs (
/me/clubs). Pending invitations appear at the top of the grid with an amber Invitation pill; tap Respond.
If You Don't Have an Account Yet
If you're not signed in, the page asks you to sign up or log in. Use the same email address the invitation was sent to. After authenticating, you'll be returned to the invitation automatically and the full respond page will load.
If You're Signed In as a Different Person
If you're logged in as a different account, the page tells you the invitation was sent to a different address (masked, e.g. p@example.com) and offers a Sign in with another account button. Sign out from the user menu, then sign back in with the email the invitation was sent to.
Profile Completion
If your profile is missing essential details (your name, date of birth, emergency contact, or, for guardians, your child's basic profile), the system pauses and walks you through a short Complete your profile flow before completing the membership. Once you're done, the platform automatically finishes accepting and lands you in the new club.
Accepting
- Tick the Data processing consent checkbox.
- Click Accept invitation. The button shows a spinner while the system creates your membership.
- You're welcomed into the club and redirected to its dashboard. The card on My clubs now shows it as an active membership.
Declining
The decline option is the small Decline invitation text link beside the Accept button. Tap it to record a decline; the invitation moves to the Past section of My clubs and the committee sees it as declined on their invitations page.
You can change your mind later by asking the club to send a fresh invitation.
Junior Invitations
If a club has invited a junior, the page shows a For [junior's name] chip in the hero and a clear "Invitation for [junior]" heading. The Accept button reads Accept for [first name]. The junior must already be linked to you as a guardian, if they aren't, the profile-completion gate prompts you to add them. See Managing Your Juniors.
Visitor Invitations
Some clubs send a one-off Visitor invitation rather than a full membership invite, for example, to come along to a try-out night. The respond page calls this out explicitly in the eyebrow ("Visitor invitation") and the meta line ("One-off visit · not a membership commitment"), so you know what you're agreeing to.
Expired or Revoked Invitations
Two things can happen to an invitation before you respond:
- Expired: pending invitations expire 30 days after they're sent
- Revoked: the club withdrew the invitation
In either case, the respond page shows the status and a Back to my clubs** button. If you still want to join, contact the club and ask them to send a fresh invitation, or apply directly from the club's public page.
