Managing Seasons
Create and manage club seasons to organise teams, matches, and events by time period
Managing Seasons
Seasons define the time periods your club operates in. They organise teams, matches, and statistics into distinct periods (e.g. "2025/26 Season"). Only one season can be active at a time.
Accessing Seasons
Navigate to Admin > Seasons from the sidebar.
Season Lifecycle
Every season moves through a series of statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|--------|---------|
| Draft | Being set up. Not yet visible to members as the active season. |
| Active | The current season. Teams, matches, and events operate within this season. Only one season can be active at a time. |
| Completed | The season has finished. All data is preserved for historical records. |
| Archived | Moved out of the way. Data is preserved but the season no longer appears in the season selector. |
Allowed Transitions
- Draft can be activated or archived
- Active can be completed or archived
- Completed can be archived
- Archived is a terminal state and cannot be changed
Creating a Season
- Click Create Season
- Enter a name (e.g. "2025/26 Season")
- Set the start date and end date
- Click Create
The season is created in Draft status. You can set up teams and configuration before activating it.
Activating a Season
- Click the ... menu on a draft season
- Select Activate
- Confirm the activation
Note: Only one season can be active at a time. If another season is already active, you'll need to complete or archive it first.
Once active, the season appears in the season selector in the header bar, allowing you to switch context between seasons.
Completing a Season
When a season's matches and events are finished:
- Click the ... menu on the active season
- Select Complete
- Confirm completion
If there are incomplete matches, you'll see a warning showing how many remain. You can still complete the season — the incomplete matches will be preserved as-is.
Archiving a Season
Archiving moves a season out of the way while preserving all its data (teams, matches, results).
- Click the ... menu on any non-archived season
- Select Archive
- Confirm the archive
- The season moves to the Archived Seasons section at the bottom of the page
- It no longer appears in the season selector dropdown in the header
- All teams, matches, and results are preserved
- The season becomes read-only — you cannot edit it or change its status
Tip: Use archiving for seasons you're done with. It keeps things tidy without losing any historical data.
Deleting a Season
Deletion permanently removes a season and all its associated data.
- Draft seasons can always be deleted via the ... menu
- Archived seasons with no teams or matches can also be deleted
- Active, completed, or archived seasons with data cannot be deleted — archive them instead
Season Selector
The season selector appears in the header bar and lets you switch between seasons. It shows:
- Active seasons (highlighted)
- Draft seasons
- Completed seasons
Archived seasons do not appear in the selector — they are only managed from this admin page.
Season Cards
Each season card shows:
- Season name and status badge
- Date range
- Number of teams
- Number of matches
The ... menu on each card shows only the actions available for that season's current status. Archived seasons with data have no actions available and the menu is hidden.
Best Practices
- One season at a time — Keep one season active. Complete it before starting the next.
- Archive when done — Archive completed seasons to keep the selector clean.
- Delete drafts freely — If you created a test season, delete it rather than archiving.
- Check for incomplete matches — Before completing a season, review any unfinished matches.
