Submitting a match-card as captain
After a league night, the home team's captain enters the per-rubber result so the league table can update. Here's how.
Submitting a match-card as captain
When your team plays a league or cup fixture, one captain submits the result. By default this is the home captain, but either captain can submit if the home captain isn't available. Aim to submit within 24 hours of the match, the opposing captain has a verification window (usually 7 days) starting from your submission.
This guide assumes a team-entry, multi-rubber match (e.g. the Wiltshire 9-rubber format). If you're playing an individual or pair competition, the form is simpler.
Before you start
You need:
- To be assigned as Captain (or Vice-Captain) of one of the two teams in the fixture.
- The completed score sheet from the night.
- Ideally, a photo of the score sheet (recommended but not required).
Steps
1. Find the fixture
Open the fixture from any of these routes:
- The notification you received before the match.
- Your Competitions page (
/me/competitions, in the sidebar under My clubs) → open the competition → tap the fixture. - Your home page (
/me): when a match card is due, a Your competitions card appears with a direct link to the fixture. - Your Teams page (
/me/teams) → click your team → find the fixture in the Upcoming or Recent section. - The competition's fixtures list.
On the fixture page, tap Submit match card. The button only appears while the fixture is open for results (scheduled or played) and you captain one of the two teams.
2. Confirm match metadata
The form pre-fills:
- Played at: date and time. Adjust if the match was rescheduled.
- Venue: defaults to your club's home venue. Change if the match was moved.
3. Fill the rubbers
For each rubber (numbered 1-9 in a standard team match):
- Pick home players: two players from your roster for doubles, one for singles. The selector only shows players eligible for this competition.
- Pick away players: same, for the opposing roster.
- Enter games won: the home and away game counts (e.g. 2-1, 2-0). The form enforces best-of-3.
- Flag retired / walkover if applicable. A retired rubber is one that started but ended early (injury, withdrawal). A walkover rubber means one side didn't field players.
The form validates as you go:
- Rubber numbers must be unique and sequential.
- Each rubber must have a winner unless flagged retired or walkover.
- A player can't appear twice in the same rubber.
- Some competitions cap how many rubbers a single player can appear in, the form enforces this.
4. Add notes (optional)
Use the Notes field for anything the league secretary should know: late start, court swap, retirement reason. Notes are visible to:
- Both captains.
- Both club committees.
- The competition's admins.
They are not public. Keep them factual.
5. Add a photo of the score sheet (recommended)
Tap Upload photo and snap the paper card. This becomes evidence if the result is contested later. The photo is stored privately to the competition's admins; it isn't shown publicly.
6. Review and submit
The form shows a summary: the final rubber count, who won the match overall, any flags. If anything looks off, hit Back to edit.
When you tap Submit:
- The match enters the
pending_verificationstate. - The opposing captain is notified (email + in-app).
- The verification window starts (7 days by default).
- The result is provisional until verified.
You can edit the match-card from the fixture page until the opposing captain confirms or contests, or the verification timer expires. Edits restart the verification window.
How long should this take?
On a mobile phone with the roster pre-loaded, a 9-rubber card should take under 90 seconds end-to-end. If you're consistently spending much longer, talk to your committee, your roster might need pruning, or there's a UX issue we should know about.
What happens next
- The opposing captain reviews and either confirms or contests within the verification window. See Verification for their flow.
- If they don't act before the timer runs out, the match auto-confirms.
- A confirmed result posts to the league table within a minute.
Troubleshooting
I can't see "Submit match-card"
You're probably not listed as a Captain or Vice-Captain on either team. Ask your team captain or club committee to update your role.
A player I want to pick isn't in the dropdown
The player isn't eligible for this competition. Reasons: not on the roster, not at the right club, hasn't met an age or grade rule, or is missing a required document. Talk to your club committee.
I submitted the wrong result
Open the fixture again and tap Edit. You can re-submit until the opposing captain confirms or contests. Editing restarts their verification timer.
